Providence Prepared

Our Response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

May 5, 2020

I was glad when they said unto me,
Let us go into the house of the LORD.
-Psalm 122:1

Yesterday, Attorney General William Barr said, ‘It is time for churches to open and open wide’. This is great news that we have all looked forward to hearing! Like the Psalmist, we can all say, ‘I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the LORD.’ Amid the excitement of returning to Church, there are concerns and many questions that need to be answered.

First and foremost, let me say your health and safety is a priority. We want you to feel safe at any public gathering of the Providence Baptist Church. As we have stated from the start of this coronavirus event, if you do not feel comfortable attending services please stay home. If you have a weakened immune system or are among those who are at a higher risk of infection, please worship with us from home. All services will be broadcasted live. We are for you and will be here when you are ready to join us in public worship.

Beginning this Sunday, May 10th, we will resume in-person meetings. Please take the time to read the attached document about our plan for ‘rebooting’ the Providence Baptist Church. In this 3-page document, you will find a detailed list of what to expect at PBC following COVID-19. You will find information concerning our 4-phased plan of returning to our pre-COVID-19 ministries.  We are taking a measured and well-thought-out approach.

I miss each one of you. I look forward to seeing your smiling faces and hearing your jubilant voice as we sing praise to God together again. Although we resume services this Sunday, it may be a while before we are all together in one local assembly. Until then, let us continue to pray for one another. Let us continue to encourage one another with phone calls, text messages, cards, and letters. Let us continue to keep our eyes upon the Lord, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith.

With love and prayers,
Pastor John

As this event has developed, we have made adjustments to our public ministry that were in keeping with the directives of our State and local governments. Yesterday, Gov. Lee issued Executive Order 23 in which all non-essential travel is banned and residents are expected to stay at home. We recommend to our family and friends to follow the new rules as a good testimony for the LORD. Within the Executive Order, an exemption is given to the local church so that members can gather, in numbers no more than 10, to prepare and offer online services. We praise the Lord for the blessing of technology and the skilled team who are working with the broadcast ministry of Providence Baptist Church. We will continue to livestream all our services and look forward to that grand day when we shall gather together once more at PBC.

As reported on our Church call-out: Governor Bill Lee has issued Executive Order No.17 limiting all social gatherings to no more than 10 people. PBC will take the necessary steps as outlined in our in-house document, ‘Providence Prepared’.

We support our Governor and will continue to pray for him as he leads the great State of Tennessee. Services will continue to be live-streamed and a minimal team will assist in this step.

May God grant us faith to keep our eyes upon Him and our hands to plow. To God be the Glory!

As we are all aware, Gov. Lee has confirmed the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is in Tennessee. What do we do now? First and foremost, we must keep our eyes upon the Lord and remember: God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Our community needs to see an example of faith not fear! God has given us a sound mind to make fact-based decisions that are in keeping with common sense and not driven by hysteria. To that end, we will take the following precautions:

    • Greeters will Open Doors and keep doors open to minimize the need for touching door handles
    • For this season, we will welcome one another with smiles and waves instead of handshakes and hugs.
    • Offering plates will not be passed. Collection boxes will be placed near the exit doors. Online giving and electronic giving is also available.
    • Hand sanitizer will be available at the Church
    • Door handles, pews, water fountains, and other frequently touched surfaces will be sanitized during the week following each service. *Volunteer helpers are appreciated.

Along with these steps to prevent the unnecessary spread of germs, we also recommend the recommendations made by the CDC and the World Health Organization

    • Stay at home if you are sick. Services are broadcasted live on the church website and the church’s Facebook page.
    • WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Mother’s Day Out will follow the scheduling of Hamilton County School. Should that change, parents will be notified through Facebook, messaging, and/or phone calls.

The Leadership Team takes the health and safety of the congregation seriously. As this situation unfolds, we will continue to be proactive in our response. But above all, we will keep our eyes upon the Lord and trust Him to guide us through the days ahead. Updates will be available here on this page and through the ‘prayer-chain’ calling system.

Church services will be held as scheduled.
